ABOUT MEMORIAL

A church in Sterling Heights where the Bible is opened, Jesus is preached, and ordinary people are learning to follow Him.

WHO WE ARE

Memorial is one congregation spanning four generations. On Sundays we sing, pray, read Scripture, hear it preached, and share the Lord’s Supper together. During the week we work ordinary jobs, raise children, care for aging parents, and try to live what we heard. We pray for each other by name.

We are Baptist, which means we baptize people who have come to faith rather than infants, we govern ourselves as a congregation, and we hold that Scripture has the final word.

OUR STORY

Memorial Baptist Church of Sterling Heights opened its doors in 1965 and has been on Clinton River Road ever since. Sterling Heights has changed a great deal in sixty years. Our purpose has not: to know Christ, to be shaped by His Word, and to make Him known. We are grateful for the people who built this church, and we intend to hand it on in better shape than we received it.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Memorial teaches the Bible. These summaries say plainly what we believe, so that you know before you visit rather than after you have joined. Our full statement of faith is the Baptist Faith and Message (2000), linked at the end of this section.

The Bible is God’s Word. It teaches us who God is, shows us the way of salvation, and gives us the truth we need for faith, life, and obedience.

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He lived without sin, died for our sins, rose from the grave, and will return as King.

Baptism is for those who have trusted in Jesus. It is a public picture of new life in Christ and a first step of obedience for believers.

The Lord’s Supper helps us remember the death of Jesus, give thanks for His grace, and look forward to His return.

There is one true and living God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is holy, good, sovereign, and worthy of our worship.

Salvation is not something we earn. It is God’s gift of grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ, who rescues sinners and makes us new.

The church is a family of believers who worship together, grow in Scripture, care for one another, and help one another follow Jesus.

God sends His church into the world with good news. We want to share the gospel, serve our neighbors, and make disciples in Sterling Heights, across Michigan, and around the world.
